AGS Security provides security dog handlers and trained general purpose patrol dogs for construction sites, commercial premises, vacant properties and other high-risk locations across the UK.

Each security dog team pairs a trained dog with a qualified handler to deliver a strong visible deterrent, regular patrols and enhanced protection against theft, trespass, vandalism and unauthorised access.

Cover can be arranged as short-term, long-term or emergency K9 security. Handlers are appropriately qualified through recognised industry bodies such as NASDU or BIPDT, and our general purpose security dog services are delivered in line with BS 8517-1.

Service Scope

What a Security Dog Team Does on Site

Our dogs are general purpose patrol dogs. Their work is deterrence, patrol and searching for people — not substance or explosives detection. Duties are agreed around the site before deployment.

01

Visible Deterrent

A handler and dog together deter intrusion in a way a lone officer often cannot, particularly on open or repeatedly targeted sites.

02

Site Patrols

Routine internal, external and perimeter patrols covering large or poorly lit areas that would take an officer far longer alone.

03

Building & Compound Searches

Searching part-built structures, yards, compounds and stored plant for anyone on site who should not be there.

04

Night-Time Cover

Dogs are at their most effective after dark, using scent to indicate a presence long before it becomes visible.

05

Handler Protection

The dog supports the safety of a handler working alone on a remote or unlit site during out-of-hours cover.

06

Access & Perimeter Checks

Monitoring gates, fence lines, hoarding and access points where breaches or repeat trespass have been identified.

07

Incident Reporting

Recording incidents, patrol activity and observations in line with the agreed reporting procedure for the site.

08

Operational Escalation

A defined route for raising incidents beyond the handler, including liaison with the police where necessary.

Why Choose AGS Security

Dog Teams Backed by Qualifications, Standards and Supervision

A security dog on site is only as good as the handler working it and the standards behind the pairing. Buyers should be asking about handler qualification, the standard the service is delivered to, and what happens when something is found.

AGS dog teams are structured around those points, so the service can be specified, managed and reviewed rather than booked and forgotten.

Qualified Dog Teams

Handlers qualified through NASDU or BIPDT, working dogs suited to general purpose patrol duties.

Delivered to BS 8517-1

The British Standard covering the use of general purpose security dogs on commercial sites.

Equipped Transport

Dog units supported by fully equipped vehicles so teams can be moved and deployed properly.

Short-Notice and Ongoing Cover

From emergency cover after a break-in to long-term patrols on an active development.

Clear Reporting

Patrol activity, incidents and observations recorded against the requirements of the assignment.

Clear Quotation Basis

Costs built from the hours, site and duties agreed, rather than a fixed off-the-shelf package.

Buyer Outcomes

What a Security Dog Team Helps You Achieve

Deter Repeat Intrusion

Break the pattern on a site that has already been targeted, where fencing and signage alone have not worked.

Cover More Ground

A dog team patrols large, open or poorly lit sites far more quickly than an officer working alone.

Strengthen Out-of-Hours Protection

Maintain a visible presence overnight and at weekends, when sites stand empty and are particularly vulnerable to theft and unauthorised access.

Protect Plant and Materials

Active patrolling around stored plant, materials, cable and fuel that are costly to replace and delay the programme.

Improve Lone-Worker Safety

Give an officer working a remote or unlit site a substantial safety and confidence advantage.

Reduce Disruption and Delay

Fewer break-ins means fewer stood-down days, damaged works and insurance claims against the programme.

Operational Delivery

From Site Assessment to a Deployed Dog Team

A dog team is specified around the site, the risk and the hours that actually need covering — not booked from a list.

STEP 01

Requirement Review

Establish the site, its boundaries, the hours needing cover, the history of intrusion and the outcome you need.

STEP 02

Operational Planning

Patrol routes, search areas, access arrangements, reporting and escalation are written into the assignment instructions.

STEP 03

Dog & Handler Deployment

A qualified handler and suitable patrol dog are briefed and deployed, with transport arranged for the site and shift.

STEP 04

Ongoing Support

Operational oversight supports continuity, communication and changes to patrol patterns as the site develops.

Choosing a Dog Handling Company You Can Rely On

Dog handling is a service where the difference between suppliers is real: qualification, welfare, standards and what the handler actually does when something is found.

Buyer Questions

Security Dog Handler FAQs

What type of security dogs does AGS provide?
General purpose patrol dogs. They are trained for deterrence, patrolling and searching premises for people. AGS does not provide specialist detection dogs, so if your requirement is substance or explosives screening, we are not the right supplier for that particular task and will say so.
Are your security dog handlers qualified?
Yes. Handlers hold the SIA licence appropriate to the activity being performed and are qualified through recognised industry bodies such as NASDU or BIPDT. General purpose security dog services are delivered in line with BS 8517-1.
Where can security dog teams be deployed?
Construction sites, warehouses and yards, commercial premises, industrial sites and vacant properties — typically locations that are large, open, poorly lit or have already been targeted.
What can a dog team do that a security officer alone cannot?
Two things mainly. A dog covers ground far more quickly on a large or unlit site, and can indicate someone's presence by scent long before they would be seen. The visible deterrent of a dog team is also markedly stronger, which matters on sites that have been targeted more than once.
Do you provide dog teams overnight and at weekends?
Yes. Most dog deployments are out-of-hours, because that is when sites are empty and losses occur. Nights, weekends and shutdown periods can all be covered.
How quickly can a dog team be deployed?
Emergency K9 cover is often possible at short notice, for example after a break-in. Planned deployments allow time for a site visit, assignment instructions and the right handler and dog pairing. Tell us the date you need cover from and we will confirm what is achievable.
How much does a security dog handler cost?
Cost depends on the hours and days covered, the site location and size, the number of teams needed and whether the requirement is short-term or ongoing. Dog teams are priced differently from static officers because of the handler qualification and the transport involved, so we quote against a written specification rather than publishing a fixed rate.
Can dog handling be combined with other security services?
Yes, and it commonly is. A typical arrangement uses static officers or gatehouse cover during working hours and a dog team overnight, or mobile patrols across several sites with a dog team on the highest-risk one.
Can you support multiple sites?
Yes, subject to the individual service specification, operating hours and deployment requirements for each location.
What information is needed for a quotation?
The site location and size, the hours you need covered, the type of premises, any history of intrusion, and whether the requirement is short-term or ongoing.
