Site Access Control
Controlling who comes on site, signing in contractors and deliveries, and keeping a record of who was on the development.

AGS Security protects residential developments, commercial builds, groundworks and infrastructure projects across the UK — SIA-licensed officers, K9 dog teams, gatehouse cover and mobile patrols, specified around where the programme actually is.
Construction is the environment we know best. We have secured live developments through their full build cycle, scaled cover up when a site came under sustained pressure, and worked alongside local police where trespass moved from nuisance to a public-safety problem. One housebuilder relationship has run for over seven years.
A development is not one security problem but several in sequence. What an open groundworks site needs is not what a plot of finished units with residents moving in needs, and a supplier who deploys the same officer to the same gate for eighteen months is not managing that.
Construction sites carry a particular pattern of risk — theft of plant, tools and cable, vandalism to finished work, and arson on partly built or unoccupied plots. Most developments use several of these measures together, with the balance changing as the programme moves and the risk moves with it.
Controlling who comes on site, signing in contractors and deliveries, and keeping a record of who was on the development.
SIA-licensed officers during working hours or around the clock, depending on what the programme and the risk require.
A visible security presence through evenings, nights and weekends, when construction sites can be particularly vulnerable to theft, trespass and unauthorised access.
General purpose patrol dog teams for open, unlit or repeatedly targeted sites where an officer alone is not enough.
Large developments covered on the move rather than watched from one gate, including compounds and outlying plots.
Fence lines, hoarding, gates and known access points checked for breaches, damage and signs of repeat entry.
Active cover around the things that are stolen: plant, tools, copper cable, fuel and stored materials.
Observations and incidents recorded and escalated, including reporting to the police where an incident warrants it.
Construction security is bought by people who already have enough to manage. What a site manager needs is a supplier who understands that the programme moves, that deliveries do not wait, and that security which obstructs the build will be worked around by the trades within a week.
We have worked developments from first groundworks through to occupied plots, and scaled cover mid-programme when a site came under sustained pressure. That is a different service from posting an officer at a gate and invoicing monthly.
Residential and commercial builds worked through the programme, including one housebuilder relationship of over seven years.
Patrols and dog teams added when incidents escalate, rather than the same arrangement regardless of what is happening.
General purpose patrol dog teams available without going to a second supplier when a site needs them.
Structured incident records for your own review, your insurer and, where relevant, the police.
Access arrangements that let deliveries and trades work, because security that blocks the programme gets bypassed.
Priced on the site, the hours and the phase, and reviewed as the development changes.
The items actually targeted on developments, and the ones with the longest replacement lead times.
A break-in costs stood-down trades and delayed follow-on works long after the stolen items have been replaced.
Unauthorised access to a live site is a safety problem before it is a theft one, particularly where children are getting in.
Trespass and antisocial behaviour around a development quickly become the developer's problem in the community's eyes.
Documented cover and incident records supporting a claim, rather than a conversation about what was in place.
The awkward final phase, where residents are moving in while construction continues alongside them.
The most common failure in construction security is specifying it once, at pre-start, and leaving it unchanged for two years while the site becomes an entirely different place.
An open site with long, poorly defined boundaries, plant on the ground and little to hide behind. Deterrence and perimeter coverage matter most, and this is often where dog teams earn their place because there is simply a lot of ground and very little light.
The highest-value phase. Copper cable, boilers, white goods, tools and materials are on site, buildings offer cover to anyone inside them, and contractor numbers peak. Access control and accurate records of who is on site become as important as the perimeter.
The phase most often under-specified. Residents are living alongside an active site, so security has to protect the works, keep people out of dangerous areas, and be something the new neighbours are glad of rather than complaining about.
Specified before the first delivery arrives, then reviewed as the programme moves rather than left as written.
The site, its boundaries and access points, the programme dates, what will be stored where, and any local history of intrusion.
Cover, patrol routes, access rules, reporting and escalation written into assignment instructions before mobilisation.
Briefed officers and, where specified, dog teams deployed, with site inductions completed and reporting live from day one.
Cover reassessed as phases change or incidents escalate, adding patrols or dog capability where the risk has moved.
Most developments use two or three of these together, with the mix changing as the programme moves.
SIA-licensed officers on site during working hours or overnight, the backbone of most development contracts.

In January 2024 AGS was asked to strengthen security at a major residential development in Daventry, Northamptonshire, following escalating trespass and public-safety concerns. Two K9 dog-handler teams, proactive patrols, monitoring of vulnerable areas, structured incident reporting and communication with local police were introduced, and the recurring pattern of incidents subsided during the initial weeks. AGS continued to support the development through later stages of the programme into 2025.
“From start to finish, their team ensured our construction site was fully secure, with expert security guards and dog handlers who were always attentive and thorough. AGS’s flexibility and commitment to maintaining a safe environment allowed us to focus on our work without any security concerns.”
“Professional security firm with a good eye for detail. Intensive reports from incidents occurring and a presence that is only noticeable to the criminals and not to our residents. Been an invaluable service for over 7 years now.”

Construction security assignments are judged over a long programme. Consistency of cover, the quality of incident reporting and the willingness to reassess arrangements as risk changes matter more than anything promised at tender stage.
